Britain's Unmaned Stealth Bomber

I saw this on RELEVANT Magazine today and got a kick out of it...
A British defense firm has developed an unmanned stealth fighter dubbed the "Taranis" that seriously looks exactly like a Cylon fighter from Battlestar Galactica. If you remember correctly, that didn't exactly work out so well for humanity on the show ...
That's right...prepare for the Cylon invasion.

Here's a pic of the fighter:

There Really Is An App For Everything

Are you a Christian and need help debating an Atheist?  There's an App for that.
Are you an Atheist and need help debating a Christian?  There's an App for that.

The App wars have gone to a whole new level.  Apps like Bible Thumper (an App for religious skeptics), Fast Facts, Challenges, & Tactics and The Atheist Pocket Debater have taken the App war to a whole new level.
In a dozen new phone applications, whether faith-based or faith-bashing, the prospective debater is given a primer on the basic rules of engagement — how to parry the circular argument, the false dichotomy, the ad hominem attack, the straw man — and then coached on all the likely flashpoints of contention. Why Darwinism is scientifically sound, or not. The differences between intelligent design and creationism, and whether either theory has any merit. The proof that America was, or was not, founded on Christian principles.
Really, we need an App to do this?  Here's something novel...take a course on logic...take a philosophy class.  Even better yet, pick up a book and read it.  In my opinion, any of these will actually serve you better than an App you may or may not use and you might actually learn something.

Between my Droid and iPad, I have dozens of Apps...some games, blogging programs, and various other stuff like Foursquare and Tweetdeck.  There is little overlap between the Apps on my Droid and the Apps on my iPad.  The one thing that overlaps is I have the YouVersion of the Bible on both.  Nothing on debating, especially Atheists. Have we really gotten to the point where we can't argue without the aid of an App?  Are we that lazy as a culture?  Does anyone else think this is getting a little out of hand?

I mean, I can understand why these Apps are so popular.  We're a society of instant gratification.  We want it now.  We don't want to wait to read a book or to learn philosophy.  It will be interesting to see how Apps continue to change our culture...for better or for worse.

PC(USA) General Assembly Votes on Noncelibate Gay and Lesbian Ministers

The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA voted 53%-46% today in favor of changing ordination standards to remove language requiring ministers "live either in fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, or chastity in singleness."

The question will now be sent to local presbyteries for further consideration. A majority of the Presbyteries must approve the measure before the General Assembly can vote on it for a final time in 2011.

Currently Reading

I picked up two books from the library today.  The first is House and Philosophy (part of the Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series).  The second is The Scar by China Mieville.  I enjoyed Perdido Street Station, so I thought I'd give another book by Mieville a go.  I couldn't get into The Sparrow, so I'm moving onAlthough, I have to question my motives behind grabbing two books from the library right now.  I have two book reviews due this month, plus several others sitting on my desk waiting to be reviewed...

LeBron James TV Special

This has been the buzz since yesterday.  I contemplated not mentioning it, but I changed my mind.

Tonight, LeBron James will announce where he's going...on national TV.  That's right, national TV.  ESPN is dedicating an hour to to this announcement in a show called "The Decision".  There are very few people in the country who deserve an hour of time on TV.  The President of the United States is one.  Is LeBron James worthy of an hour dedicated to his decision?

Now, this won't affect me...I don't get ESPN and I really don't care about the NBA anyway...so the answer for me is quite simple...NO.  But others disagree.  So, what do you think?

RELEVANT Magazine show us how ridiculous this whole thing is by proposing a reality show for all of LeBron's decisions: "Tomorrow, on ESPN: LeBron Decides What to Eat for Lunch: The Decision 2".

Israel, Donations, and Social Justice

Dr. Jim over at Zwinglius Redivivus has a pretty good discussion going on Tax Exempt Donations and Israel.  This also happens to coincide with a conversation I'm having with a conservative Christian blogger regarding social justice.  If the conservative Christian model of social justice seeks to keep minimal government involvement, then why do the need to take advantage of programs that use "tax-exempt donations to help Jews establish permanence in the Israeli-occupied territories?"  Since tax exempt status comes through the government, isn't this a self-defeating argument?

Joel at The Church of Jesus Christ has also weighed in on this issue.

The Last Airbender

My wife and I saw The Last Airbender yesterday.  The movie is every bit as bad as the reviews make it out to be.  The script was awful, the acting was worse.  The cartoon series is 100% better.  Save your money, wait for the movie to come out on Netflix.  While you wait, watch the cartoon series.  It's on Netflix and can be watched instantly on several platforms (XBox 360, Wii, iPad, PC, Mac and BluRay) via Watch It Now.
