About

On June 5, 2010,  I had a great opportunity to meet with and talk to other bloggers at the Mission Igniter Social Experience in Wilsonville, OR.  While there, I had the opportunity to talk to Renee Johnson (@faithbookjesus on Twitter), blogger and author of Faithbook of Jesus.  One of the things she said that stuck with me was about blogging our passion.

I’ve been blogging over at Simul Iustus et Peccator for over a year now, and I think the passion has gone out for me there.  I think the blog is too broad and all over the place.  At lunch, I mentioned something to Renee about refocusing my blogging.  The reply I got was, “Why not?”

On the way home, I gave a lot of thought to this and I keep coming back to the same idea…an idea I’ve played around with and tried (and quit) several times…blogging about theology and pop culture.

So, on that note, I’m pleased to announce my latest project, Clashing Cultures. Why Clashing Cultures?  I think there is a perception in the Christian community as a whole that, at best we stick to our own little church realm and ignore God in our culture.  The worst case is that we totally distance ourselves from anything ‘secular’.  This creates a clashing of cultures (religious and secular).

As Christians, we are called to live in the world, but not be of the world.  To that end, we cannot escape pop culture.

This blog will look at those areas where the culture and theology meet and will (hopefully) provide a lens for Christians to look at our culture and find a way to live in our world.  Posts will cover a wide variety of topics ranging from books and video games to social justice.  Some of these topics are controversial, but I’m not going to shy away from them.  You might agree with me, you might not.  But I’m here to provide a forum for debate and discussion.

My other blog will remain open and I still intend to use it, but this is where I feel I am being called to write.
